The Responsibility
[Allah - there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, Al-Qayyum (the Sustainer of all existence). Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep...] (1:255)
One of the Most important Beautiful Names is the name of the Al-Qayyum القيوم (the Guardian of all). It has very serious effect in our daily life, and most people are not aware of the daily expression of this name in their life. One of the most common words among people is the word (responsibility), which is one of the most popular words expressing the meaning of the name (Al-Qayyum). You can consider those who aware of their responsibilities & don’t disregard their duties as those who glorify the name of the Qayyum, and whoever neglects responsibility goes against the name of the Qayyum.
The youth of today suffers from a lot of psychological issues. The most obvious one of these issues is (dependence) and waiting for the others to do everything for him. We also notice that the father is waiting for his son to do everything, and the son is waiting for the father to do everything, the husband and wife are likewise. The manager and his employees are the same as well, and the ruler and his people as well. Each party waits for the other party and depends on it. And thus the psychological and social structure is damaged because all parties are neglecting their responsibility. For example, if you asked those who are reluctant to marry, “Why haven’t you married yet?” The answer will be “the circumstances, the high cost of living, the high prices, the intransigence of the parents, etc.” But the hidden deep answer will most likely be “fear of responsibility”.
When we study the issue of responsibility in depth, we will find that it has two dimensions:
# The first dimension is the kind of sense of responsibility that comes naturally as a result of the name Al-Qayyum, for every human being has a percentage of stewardship and obligation. The higher his sense of his reponsibility, the more he glorifies his God Al-Qayyum.
# The second dimension is that responsibility is a very personal matter. Your responsibility belongs to you, and most people focus more on the appearances and social aspect of matters at the expense of their individuality.
Stewardship is not restricted to men, because God said to all believers, men and women (Be upright for God) (Be upright with justice, witnesses for God),
so the responsibility here is a command for everyone, that every person stands for Allah and works hard in his life and strives and rises. as for the verse [Men Guardians of women] (4:34), this is in the family situation where the man is the responsible of the woman, because he has the ability to move more and has no restrictions such as pregnancy and breastfeeding. He has the ability & freedom to move all the time without any physical restrictions, and therefore in the family situation men are in charge of women, but in public life everyone should be strong and active.
The upright & diligent ones are busy with their work, while the idles are busy with the work of others
You see most young people blame their parents, governments or universities for their failure to achieving their goals. But they know that nothing will provide with all that you want except your work and your own effort. If you want something, this means that you are responsible to achieve it for yourself. That is why you see the diligent ones are always busy with their own work. Because they consider it as their responsibility and their God AL-Qayyum will ask them about it. While the idle ones are busy with the work of others, because they simply don’t have jobs, that is, they are not working on something. Ask yourself: Are you busy with your work? do you focus on your job or responsibility? If your answer is yes, then you are one of the upright & diligent ones
The name of the Qayyum is your key to a clearer understanding of your responsibility and the role that you have to play in this life.
